Puertito de Güímar, Tenerife

El Puertito de Güímar is a small coastal town belonging to the municipality of Güímar.

It is located about 22 kilometers from Santa Cruz de Tenerife and about 38 kilometers from Tenerife South Airport.

It is a residential and not very touristy town, very frequented by locals and the island in general, as well as people who like to take trips or getaways in motorhomes, since it has parking areas enabled for this purpose.

It has several bathing areas. It has a large black sand beach, divided into sections and with breakwaters. There are also small coves and a small port in the old part of town, where you can sunbathe or swim from the many steps and walkways leading to the sea.

It is one of the few areas of the island that has an authorized dog beach.

The waves are usually weak, except on days with strong winds when the sea can be somewhat rough.

It is generally a very safe and quiet area, without major currents, ideal for enjoying with the family.

The beaches are of dark sand, with pebbles in some areas. There is a very pleasant promenade and a good number of services.

In the town itself you can find the Malpaís Nature Reserve, a protected volcanic area ideal for hiking and exploring lava landscapes .

The Güímar area also has ravines and cliffs with various routes for hikers .

What services does Puertito de Güímar offer?

On the beach itself you can find trash cans, showers and toilets.

There are ample parking areas available at various locations, although in summer and on hot, sunny days, it can be difficult to find a spot.

In the surrounding area, you’ll find a good number of bars and restaurants, supermarkets, bakeries and cafes, as well as other neighborhood shops.

How to get to Puertito de Güímar?

Getting there is easy and there is no getting lost.

By car, take exit 22 of the southern highway (TF-1) and follow the signs to Puertito de Güímar on a two-lane road. The town is just over 1 kilometer from the highway.

By busline 120 goes to the center of Puertito de Güímar from Santa Cruz. If you’re traveling from the south of the island, you’ll need to take a bus to the Güímar highway stop and then connect with line 120 when it departs toward Puertito.

If you’re in one of the surrounding municipalities, such as Candelaria, or coming from more touristy areas in the south of the island and don’t want to waste time commuting to different buses, you can take a taxi from your current location to get there quickly.
