Playa San Marcos

San Marcos beach, located in the municipality of Icod de los Vinos, is one of the most picturesque beaches in northern Tenerife. It is a secluded cove with black volcanic sand, protected by cliffs that help keep the sea relatively calm for much of the year, a rare occurrence in this part of the island.

It is a beach highly appreciated by both residents and visitors, ideal for swimming safely and spending the day with the family.

It may be somewhat inconvenient at certain times of the year, as the tides can cause stones and pebbles to accumulate from the seabed.

It has a large number of services in the surrounding area.

It’s not a very big beach. It’s about 160 meters long and about 40 meters wide at its widest point.

San Marcos is also a great spot for snorkeling on calm days, as its clear waters allow you to observe the marine life close to the shore. As evening falls, the beach offers a particularly pleasant setting, with views of the ocean and the surrounding houses, creating a truly authentic scene of the island’s north.

What services does San Marcos beach offer?

There are parking areas nearby, although on summer days it can be difficult to find parking.

It has toilets, showers and bins.

It is easily accessible on foot and has a ramp for people with reduced mobility.

During the summer months and peak season, it has a lifeguard service.

It is bordered by a small seafront promenade where you can find bars and restaurants where you can taste fresh fish and traditional island dishes.

How to get to San Marcos beach?

The beach is easy to reach by car. Simply take the TF-5 motorway north. Near Icod de Los Vinos, take the TF-42 and once in Icod, follow the signs to San Marcos until you reach the promenade or parking areas.

By bus, the usual option is to take any line heading towards Icod de los Vinos, for example, line 106 directly from Santa Cruz de Tenerife, or lines 360 or 363 from Puerto de la Cruz. Once in Icod, take line 362 which connects Icod with Playa de San Marcos.

A good alternative to avoid parking problems or bus connection issues is to take a taxi from Icod de Los Vinos to the beach. Alternatively, you can take a taxi from nearby towns such as Garachico, Los Realejos, or Puerto de la Cruz.
